   1、Network Coding and Coding Transmission

In this area, the school has undertaken four National Science and Technology Major Special Projects of “Next-generation Broadband Wireless Mobile Communication Networks”, three “863 Programs” and over ten projects of National Natural Science Foundations. It has published over 40 papers in IEEE Trans. Information Theory, IEEE Trans. Communications, IEEE Communications Letters and other world-class academic journals; and has published two books and applied for more than 30 patents. It has reached advanced world levels in the research on channel coding, relay and cooperative communications, network coding and other related aspects. Moreover, the transmission system using network coding has been implemented in hardware based on a broadband wireless demonstration platform. This platform consists of two high-performance fixed-point DSPs TMS320C6455, two Xilinx’s Virtex4FX60 FPGAs and one Xilinx’s latest Virtex5SX100T FPGA. The occupied frequency band of the platform is 2.3-2.7GHz, and the operating bandwidth is 1.75MHz-28MHz. With these research results, we can effectively improve the throughput of wireless communication systems and reduce the interference between users, and achieve the efficient utilization of system resources. They can be directly applied to next-generation broadband wireless communications, wireless sensor networks, and other systems.

2、Image Coding and Transmission

The Image Transmission and Processing Institute has been working on the image/video transmission and processing since 1985. The advanced algorithms and hardware systems developed by the institute are of the advantages of higher image quality, stronger anti-error performance and lower complexity in hardware. The developed systems have been widely applied to the fields of astronautical remote sensing and deep space exploration.

  • Multispectral Image Compression System of Chang’e 1 Satellite It is the first successfully applied multispectral image compression system in deep space exploration of China. It’s an onboard system of Chang’e 1 satellite which was launched in 2007. This achievement won the second level Science and Technology award of Shaanxi in 2008.

  • Image Compression System of Chang’e 2 Satellite It is the first successfully applied stereo image compression system in deep space exploration of China. The system compresses the lunar surface image in real time with an input data speed of 256Mbps and the compression ratio could be configured online from 2 to 8. It’s an onboard system of Chang’e 2 satellite which was launched in 2010.

  • Image Compression System of Shenzhou 7 Manned Spacecraft Xidian university took part in the research of the onboard image compression hardware system and the decompression software system in Shenzhou 7 manned spacecraft. The system could compress the input image with a variable speed from 2 to 10 frames per second and got a good performance.

  • XDYX-1 Image Compression Chip and Its Demonstration System The chip is the first aerospace image compression chip of China whose performance is better than ADV212 which is the best business image compression chip in the world at present.

This series of research achievements could be widely used in deep space exploration satellites, earth observation satellites, aircrafts and missiles where the image compression is needed.

(1)Design of the new cryptographic algorithms and their security analysis and applications   

The main research contents are the design of the new cryptographic algorithms and protocols, their security analysis and applications. Plenty of achievements have been obtained: A class of new stream cipher generator-the generalized Self-Shrinking Generator was designed. The generator has good pseudo random property and resistance against all kinds of known attacks, which can be used in various aspects, such as CDMA, spread spectrum communication system, software simulation and so on. Some public key cryptographic algorithms were also designed. In all designed algorithms, SSF42 public key cryptographic algorithm has been incorporated into the national commercial cipher management office. Some formal analysis methods of security protocols were extended, such as CK model and BCP model.

(2) Wireless Networks Security

The wireless network security related to all kinds of military wireless ad hoc networks, wireless sensor network, next generation mobile communication network and so on. It mainly focuses on the key security technologies related to these networks, and the design or analysis of secure authentication protocols for various wireless networks.

The main achievements include: the first prize of Science and technology in Shaanxi province, a second prize of Provincial technological invention, 3 items of The IEC standard, 2 items of National electronic industry standard, a draft of National standards and approval, 9 invention patents application. Some technologies have been applied to the many products, such as CHANGHONG and Haier, and get good social and economic benefits. Professor Yumin Wang involved in the development “broadband wireless network security technology WAPI standard” which breaks the monopoly of the European and American countries in WLAN. It was listed as the national standard in 2003. In June 1, 2010, WAPI-based framework method (HuFu TePA) standard was approved for publication by the international organization for standardization ISO/IEC (Standard No:ISO/IEC9798-3:1998/Amd.1:2010). This is the first international standard in the information security of common technology field which submitted by China. Meanwhile, It is the only one new global technology standard for entity identification of asymmetric mechanism field over the past decades. This is a milestone for our country to make major breakthroughs in having independent intellectual property rights for WAPI.

(3) XXX information security demonstration platform

The system is a demonstration platform of XXX information system for testing and verifying information security research, which is mainly to verify related information security technologies. It consists of security gateway, hardware encryption module, security communication system (software) and network security management. By far, it has applied for 6 invention patents.
